About
Dr Sarah Mills
“I always wanted to be a Paediatrician.
Through volunteer work I developed an interest in Autism. Working closely families gave me an insight into family life when a child has additional needs.
During my carer I gained experience in a range of neurodevelopmental and genetic conditions. I have been a passionate advocate for the health of cared for children and children who find their forever families through adoption, particularly due to the range of difficulties this group of children face. I led the creation of an NHS based Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder diagnostic service in 2019.
Since becoming an NHS Consultant Paediatrician in Community Child Health in 2018 and to this day, I have been committed to ensuring children and young people get the right understanding and support through sensitive assessment and diagnosis.”

What is Community Child Health?
Community child health or Community paediatrics is a branch of medicine that focuses on the health and well-being of children within their local community. Community paediatricians play a crucial role in identifying and addressing the unique needs of children, promoting their development, and ensuring their optimal health outcomes. They tend to care for children with developmental, behavioural or learning difficulties.
Community paediatricians work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including psychologists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, and social workers, to provide holistic care tailored to the child's unique needs.
